The air turns before the leaves
I’m happy to share my Autumn 2021 mix, ‘The air turns before the leaves’, which I made for the Cult Kitchen radio show. This comes after taking a break from playing out and recording any mixes. Part of that process of stepping back led to me commencing this Substack, a way of stepping forward again.
Accompanying the mix is an interview I did with Kir and Val from Cult Kitchen. We had a good discussion about how I think about ambient, some of my experiences when I first started listening to electronic music, playing outdoors and other matters. You can read it here: ‘The type of emotions, feelings and the ideas that you can create with ambient music are just different: an interview with Chris SSG’.
The mix I prepared was made at that time of the year when the air starts to turn crisp, before the leaves begin to change colour. A mix of details and textures, fractals of meaning. It is the first podcast I’ve recorded since the passing of Peter Rehberg, and the mix is dedicated to him. He was the pivot around which so much of value turned.
